With the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. OSHA’s Safety and Health training topics provide information on specific safety and health hazards, as well as specific hazard information in different industries. The content provides helpful information to employees and employers on hazard identification and control, as well as existing OSHA standards.
This program offers an introduction to the safety procedures in this potentially high hazard environment from a skills-based perspective. This 2-week program consists of 44 hours of instruction, which includes topics on occupational health and safety provisions, scaffold safety, fall protection, excavations, concrete and masonry, OSHA inspection procedures, and employee rights. Participants complete both the 10-hour Site Safety Training and the OSHA 30-hour construction course.
The unique feature of the OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration Program at the Brooklyn EOC is that it is offered in a partnership format which provides structured transition from training to employment facilitated by the partnering entity.
