The College Preparation program helps students to transition into college, by acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully complete college-level courses. College Prep students prepare for college entrance examinations and are expected to enroll in a college or university upon completion of the program.

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL) or ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
This is an evening program that focuses on helping students speak, read and write English well. There are three levels of ESOL at BEOC: Fundamentals, Intermediate and Advanced. Placement in a class is based on admissions test scores.
ESOL Fundamentals: We Speak NYC
We Speak NYC is a conversational course based on a ten-episode Emmy-award winning video series. The episodes address issues such as health care, healthy lifestyles, education, and finance management. The program is offered in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and focuses on New York City resources. Students also have access to a computer-based practice lab. At the end of the program, students re-test to advance to other ESOL levels.
ESOL Intermediate and Advanced
The Intermediate and Advanced levels of ESOL help students to improve their English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in order to continue their education or gain employment. Students focus on academic and work-related vocabulary. Both levels include computer-aided instruction. At the Advanced Level, students also take an Introduction to Computer course that leads to certification in Microsoft Digital Literacy. Upon completion of ESOL classes, students are encouraged to continue into other BEOC programs: High School Equivalency, College Preparation or career certificate programs.

This program offers students who have not graduated from high school the opportunity to prepare for the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), previously known as the GED test. There are three levels of HSE at BEOC: Beginning HSE, Pre HSE, and HSE Preparation. Initial placement is based on admissions test scores. Previous official test scores, as well as high school performance, are also considered for placement. BEOC is an official HSE Testing Center. Students may test as soon as they complete the program.
Beginning HSE
Beginning HSE courses help students to improve their skills in reading and mathematics Students also take a Computer Basics with Keyboarding course, which is an introduction to the computer and to basic keyboarding. Upon completion, students retest for advancement to higher levels. Course performance and previous official test scores are also considered for placement and advancement.
Pre HSE
Students improve their skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Upon completion, students retest to advance to HSE Prep. Course performance and previous official test scores are also considered for placement and advancement.
HSE Prep
Students improve and strengthen their skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies in preparation for the HSE exam. HSE Prep students take the Readiness Assessment (RA) to assess readiness for the TASC exam. Course performance and previous official test scores are also considered in recommending students to take the TASC. BEOC is an official HSE Testing Center. Students are able to test upon immediate completion of their program. Upon receipt of their TASC diploma, students may enroll in college preparation or a career program.
